Spiritual Communion at Eastertide

Spiritual Communion at Eastertide

Spiritual communion in Eastertide

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Alleluia! Christ is risen!

He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Almighty God,

To whom all hearts are open,

All desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden:

Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

By the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,

That we may perfectly love you,

And worthily magnify your holy name;

Through Christ our Lord.

The Prayers

After each prayer

Lord in your mercy

The peace of the Risen Christ be always with you.

And also with you.

Blessed are you Lord….

Blessed be God, blessed be God,

Blessed be God for ever. Amen (x2)

The Lord is here

His Spirit is with us

Lift up your hearts

We lift them to the Lord

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God

It is right to give our thanks and praise

…..we praise your glorious name

Holy holy holy Lord

God of power and might

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest

Blessed is He who comes in the name of the lord

Hosanna in the highest.

….let us proclaim the mystery of faith

Christ has died,

Christ is risen

Christ will come in glory.

…..all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Lord’s prayer

Act of contrition

I love you, Lord Jesus, my love above all things, and I repent with my whole heart of having offended you. Never permit me to separate myself from you again, grant that I may love you always, and then do with me what you will. Amen.

The celebrant receives communion then all say

In union dear Lord with Christian people throughout the world and across the centuries gathered to make Eucharist, hearing your holy Word and receiving the Precious Body and Blood, I offer you praise and thanksgiving.. Even though I am exiled from tasting the Bread of Heaven and drinking the Cup of Life I pray that you will unite me with all the baptised and with your Son who gave his life for us.

Come Lord Jesus, dwell in me and send your Holy Spirit that I may be filled with your presence.

O Lord and heavenly Father, we your humble servants entirely desire your fatherly goodness mercifully to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; most humbly beseeching you to grant, that by the merits and death of your Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in His blood, we and all your whole church may obtain remission of our sins, and all other benefits of his passion. Amen.

The Blessing

Agape Maundy Thursday Service

An Agape for Maundy Thursday Live stream at 6.00pm on Resurrection Church Facebook

I hope you all have some bread, and some wine or other drink with you

So we keep a moment of stillness before we begin……

Leader:         Out of the darkness came light

All:              And the power of God was revealed

Leader:         In the running wave and the flowing air,

All:              In the quiet earth and the shining stars.

Leader:         Out of the dust came life;

All:              And the image of God was revealed

Leader:         In the human face and the gentle heart

All:              In the warmth of flesh and the depth of soul

Leader:         Out of justice came freedom

All:              And the wisdom of God was revealed

Leader:         In the need to grow and the will to love

All:              In the chance to know and the power to choose

Leader:         And God looked at the creation

All:              And behold, it was very good.

First Reading                 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

Gospel reading               John 13:1-17, 31b-35

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

The prayers – based on the three plates

The first plate, with a complete bread roll!

The second plate…only the crumbs were left!

The third plate…..The cupboard was bare!

The Lord’s prayer

A cross is brought to the table

A lighted candle is brought to the table

Bread and wine are brought to the table

Bless us Lord and give us food for our journey, where each of us, in fellowship with one another and in fellowship with you, may bring to others the love of Christ.

Song for reflection time – Please break this bread Lord

The Leader says a Prayer

After the prayer we break our bread and drink the wine (or other drink), then when we have eaten, we give thanks, saying together…..

As we have shared this bread, and poured out this wine, we thank you, God, for our daily bread, for the food which delights and nourishes us, and for the companionship that sustains us.

We thank you, too, for drink to quench our thirst, and for the Living Water with which you surprise and enrich and transform our lives

We give thanks for this meal, for all that it symbolises to us, that through it, though all in our separate homes, we are united together on this most holy night.

As we remember the agony of our brother Jesus on this night,

His betrayal and arrest,

And above all, his undying faith in you,

So we ask that we may follow him in faithfulness, now and always. Amen.
